LB Spring Lawn Tips

Spring is here and it's time to get those rakes out of the garage and dig in! The first sign of spring is looking at your lawn and deciphering what has happened to it. The blotchy whitish/yellow patches are a sign of snow mold, the heavy winters seem to create these damp moist areas. The best way to tackle this problem is a good raking, remove the debris as well treating your lawn with a good balanced fertilizer.

If the damage is severe, it may be necessary to scratch the surface and reseed the area. Fresh compost or screened topsoil (peat moss also works well) and keeping the area watered will help establish the lawn. Regular fertilizer treatments through-out the season and Don't forget with all new seeding, Tupersan is the pre-emergent fertilizer for prevention of crabgrass when applying at seeding times.

Schedule core aeration (plugging) in the fall months
Nitrogen is a much needed nutrient but don’t forget ;potassium and potash are key ingredients in each fertilizer treatment and important to good root development
A Visual check for insects and diseases during hot summer months, be proactive and only treat the lawn when necessary
Good rule of thumb: When ever the weather gets warm(summer) raise the mower blade, when the temperature drops (fall) ,lower the mower – never scalp the grass not only does it look bad but promotes weed growth by “thinning” the turf
Always read the label and follow manufacturer directions when applying any fertilizers and pesticides.
